Hi, my name is Tim Shawler owner and operator of this site and small backyard nursery. I’ve decided it was time to make a basic site to share all that Shawler’s Family Nursery has to offer. In the upcoming weeks and months I’ll begin posting about all the various perennials , flowering shrubs, seedlings and edible landscape products we sell at our small backyard nursery. Currently we have over 100 different varieties of landscape plants, flowering perennials, grapes, raspberry, blueberry, blackberry, honeyberry, and many varieties of flowering shrubs and bushes. If your looking for Indiana native plants, flowering shrubs, or hardy perennials that are bee and butterfly friendly you have come the the right place.
We typically sell small plants 1-2 yrs old in trade gallon nursery pots. Being a small backyard nursery there is no fancy green house, automated growing systems or acres and acres of plants. We propagate most things by cuttings, division and in some case grow our perennials by seed. As with all fledgling businesses in order to offer a larger mix of plants that are in demand we do buy in some plants from trusted wholesale nurseries in our growing zone.
When you buy perennials, shrubs, bushes or edible landscape items from Shawler’s Family Nursery, you can rest assured if it wont grow in our Indiana climate, soil,or overwinter without much special care we wont have it in our nursery. Our goal is to only grow those perennials that will thrive for the beginner to average gardener or landscaper. I’m a pretty lazy gardener and don’t want to spend hours upon hours tending fragile landscape plants to try and force them to grow in Indiana
